I know I was asking a lot when I recommended this as a Friday evening plan… to be honest, I wasn’t exactly sure I wanted to go myself. Eish, there were many doubts! “What if I can’t handle it? Is it a play? Is that appropriate? Am I ready? But the rain, what if there’s so much traffic I end up having to turn back?…” But I went and I’m grateful I did.
Yes it was raw but it was also healing. And yes, it was time. Remembering isn’t always easy… rawness doesn’t fade with “time” it’s eased by “acceptance”. 22 years and 170 days from now you may still feel the pain weighing your system down, so there’s no need to wait. The best time to remember is when it rises up inside you… and when that happens, allow yourself to give it a voice. Acknowledge it, all of it. Pay your respects and let go of all but the love… then get a good night’s sleep.
If you’re in Nairobi do try and attend tomorrow.
Thank you @itsmugambi @misskihoro @impossijosh and the rest of the beautiful team who put this powerful and important project together.
